Tim Gunn, famed for his role as mentor and constructive critic of the fashion designers competing on Bravo TV’s popular and award winning reality show Project Runway, is the current Chief Creative Officer for Liz Claiborne.  He’s also written a style manual for women full of his dry wit called A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style and hosts a television make-over show by the same name.

First, none of those women even remotely look plus-sized to me… But I understand the warped thinking in the modeling world… anyone over a size 2 is fat.

Secondly, I watched two episodes of Tim Gunn’s new show. One show featured a plus-sized woman, and the first thing Tim did, or rather, he had his cronie Veronica do, was to take her shopping for a Spanx body condom.

While shapewear might be appropriate for, say, a night out on the town in a slinky dress, realistically, does Tim expect women to wear these neo-corsets every day? They’re not comfortable, and it makes it a bitch to go to the bathroom.

I love Tim, really I do. But this is why I prefer Clinton and Stacy to Tim - they believe in clothes that fit a woman’s natural body, not one that has been sucked-in in a form-fitting vacuum.

I like Tim Gunn and I like Project Runway. That being said, neither know what a true plus size looks like. The “model” world consists of stick thin models who have unreal body proportions, at least in my opinion.

Project Runway tried the fuller figure by dressing the contestants moms…most of the designers FAILED in the area of fuller figure flattering clothing.

It’s up to us big girls to get our own show and then we can showcase what the fuller figure woman wants to wear by having her wear it.
