Elena Miro - Designer Plus-Size Fashion on the Milan Runways

It wasn’t so long ago that the fashion world was in an uproar over too skinny models, body image and eating disorders. But, as is typical with such fads in the fashion world such healthy concern in setting good examples for young girls has gone by the wayside and pursuit of the elusive, perfect size 0 model continues.
This makes all the more extra-ordinary the showing of the Elena Miro collection during Milan’s Fashion week on February 16, 2008. A regular in the Milan line-up, Italian designer Elena Miro is not only noteworthy in the use of full-figured models (womanly and well-proportioned but not fat), but also in the design of plus-size fashion.
The Fall/Winter 2008-09 collection continues styles seen this past winter season and is characterized by lush berry ripe purples and reds, European black in menswear inspired styles softened by lady-like details, and fabrics with soft luster and sheen.

An extremely disappointing collection, and an even more disappointing presentation. These models are not even remotely plus-size. Even by “industry” standards, these thin models are at the lowest periphery of the plus category. They are basically indistinguishable from straight-size models.
Elena Miro is taking the coward’s way out. Instead of challenging underweight standards, they are playing it as safe as possible so as not to ruffle any industry features, not to have any model who is even the least bit plus-looking.
Instead of supporting their customers and presenting full-figured women as beautiful catwalk models, Elena Miro is kowtowing to the fashionista crowd, which doesn’t care about plus-size clothing anyway, and never will.
Instead of being revolutionary, they’re being irrelevant.

Gorgeous.
Just like all of us are not size zero, all of us are not size 22-32, either.
It’s nice to see that even us tweenies can have something stunning to wear, that will look good on a model with hips (Christian Siriano, Malan Breton, and Rami Kashou certainly weren’t showing on models this size).
Now where can I get my hands on some of the samples from last season?…

I am psychologist, psychoterapist. Anorexic it”s pathologic. In the practice I see normal girls and normal woman’s with dysmorphophobia…This is pathologic….Accept yourself! This it”s ok ! I am agree with Elena Moro. In generally fashions designers have problems with sexuality….

I don’t mind the clothes but would have liked to have seen more diversity in the models… of course this is only a few pictures. Maybe the actual show had more. thanks for sharing them.
