Elegant Plus is a venture conceived by Thea Politis in 2002. Since then it has grown to include a whole family of web-sites and support services focused on the needs of full-figured women, including:

Elegant Plus Magazine (currently archived and on hiatus until further notice),
the flagship Elegant Plus fashion resource and internet shopping portal for sizes up to 34W,
and several subscriber based mailing lists through Yahoo! including a daily Elegant Plus Fashion Flash which includes subscriber editor’s pick fashions and coupons you won’t find anywhere else in the network; a Plus Fashion and Apparel Industry Job, Opportunity and News Board for models, retailers, business and creative professionals; and a Curvy News Clippings Service that keeps up with everything from body image, health research, social and entertainment articles appearing in the wider news media pertaining to and of interest to full figured people .

A 5′ 10″ curvy woman who rarely thinks of size as any reason not to live a full and active life, she has a background in art, semiotics, social theory and archaeology that has led to traveling the world and an appreciation for unique textiles, diverse cultures, and practicing artisans. Prior to heading up Elegant Plus, she worked in world class museum and academic settings where she witnessed the importance of aesthetics, the power of cultural politics and how both shape and influence everday lives. She’s a little more settled these days, living in a small New England town and restoring an early 20th century house to its Edwardian Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts former glory in her free time.

She lost a close friend to an eating disorder in her early twenties, and takes the impact of self-esteem, health, nutrition and the cultural media environment on women very seriously.
