Elegant Plus is a venture conceived by Thea Politis in 2002. Since then it has grown to include a whole family of web-sites and support services focused on the needs of full-figured women, including Elegant Plus Magazine.

A 5′ 10″ curvy, thirty-something woman who rarely thinks of size as any reason not to live a full and active life, she has a background in art, semiotics, social theory and archaeology that has led to traveling the world and an appreciation for unique textiles, diverse cultures, and practicing artisans. Prior to heading up Elegant Plus, she worked in world class museum and academic settings where she witnessed the importance of aesthetics, the power of cultural politics and how both shape and influence everday lives. She’s a little more settled these days, living in a small New England town and restoring an early 20th century house to its Edwardian Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts former glory in her free time.

She lost a close friend to an eating disorder in her early twenties, and takes the impact of self-esteem, health, nutrition and the cultural media environment on women very seriously.

For this web site, she mainly writes on fashion, celebrities, events and the roles and perceptions of women and weight in the media while giving direction to the regular contributors and guest authors.
